What do we offer?
Community, Culture and Cuisine!
ROAM approaches our various trips with the three c’s above!
We will work together to live in a shared community space, explore new surroundings and often navigate new languages.
Together we experience a lot group decision making, take unplanned adventures and build lasting memories and new relationships through all the food!
We cook or prepare food together but we also bounce around for small bites together and create meals on the fly which always present opportunities for connection and playfulness.
We create agreements to keep the community space tidy and decide who the navigator is for our outing-of-the-day and participation is expected from all.
We tend to do a lot of walking and terrain can vary from place to place but we work together to find the best solutions to preserve energy (like public transit or taxi) and take breaks. We also tend to scan our group for levels of tolerance and make adjustments as needed.
Folks who might be a good fit
• Self-Directed Families who approach parenting in a way that views their relationship with their teen as a partnership rather than a power-over/top down dynamic
• Unschoolers and Homeschoolers that have prioritized a de-colonized and intersectional environment for learning and living
• Queer teens looking for adventure with a group that will be affirming and supportive.
• Teens who are looking to grow skills that they don’t have access to in their direct community.
• Teens who want to explore ways to find community wherever they go!
• Teens who desire making connections with others who care deeply about issues that impact humanity and the environment.
• Teens that are looking to TAKE BACK some opportunities the pandemic years have interfered with.
• Teens that are a little nervous about travel and want to stretch and expand their exposure to new experiences with people who will respect their boundaries around trying new things.

Sara & partner Brian live with their teen unschooler in the woods of Michigan where they are renovating an old cabin. Their oldest is a peer mentor living the full time van life! Sara loves to travel to places a bit off the path, and has the extensive map of pins to prove it. She also loves building things, cooking, photography, laughing at memes listening to podcasts, tennis, yoga, skiing, hiking, and swimming in Lake Michigan.
Remi is a 23-year-old unschool graduate and first born of Sara. They have been in the de-schooling community their whole life, helping with and participating in a variety of community events and co-ops. They have experience as a Summer Camp Counselor and field educator, and now serve teens as a social emotional learning coach for a youth development and well-being nonprofit.
Remi currently lives in Bay City, Michigan, and enjoys learning about all the gems hidden in the middle of the Mitten State. In their free time they enjoy doing creative things, playing instruments, learning languages, hiking, foraging, making connections with people, road trips, and gardening.
Meghan is from Austin, TX and is a parent of 3 unschooled teens. She has been married to her partner for 20 years and their family has experienced many ways to dwell in North America, Japan and now Europe.
She has nearly 2 decades of experience organizing communities and building programs, ranging from Parent Teacher Organizations and fall festivals to co-ops, clubs and virtual communities.
She loves to travel, try new food, take photos and talk with locals! In her everyday life, she likes to garden, cook good food, listen to music, watch rainstorms with her husband, be silly and make tik toks, create zines, connect with other people online and also hosts a podcast called The Unschool Files.
